About Mary Queen of All Hearts
Jesus is the head and King of the Church, His mystic body. Because Mary was the mother of Christ, it is right to address her as queen. As queen, she has power over the members of the Church on account of her divine maternity. Through the maternal power she has over her Son, she in turn has such a power over His entire body, the Church.
The teachings of Marian scholar St. Louis Marie de Montfort hold that Mary has queenly authority over everything that belongs to God. St. John Damascene and other early Church Fathers argue similarly in their teachings.
Church teaching also holds that Mary cooperated with Jesus’ redemptive work of the cross to such an extent that it is fitting to call her the co-redemptrix.
Mary’s queenship is universal over all creation. She is Queen of Heaven, over angels. St. Augustine asserts that even St. Michael is eager to serve and honor her.
Mary is also queen over the souls in purgatory. St. Louis Marie de Montfort specifically teaches that Mary assists the suffering souls in purgatory and is queen over these souls.
Even those in hell are subject to Mary’s queenly authority. The enmity between Mary and Satan that was foretold in Genesis after the Fall will continue for eternity. In her queenly power, Mary holds the authority to crush demons.
When the end of the world nears, the enmity between Mary and Satan will become stronger, as Satan tries to lead more souls to damnation and Mary uses her queenly power to give aid to her followers.
In Mary’s power over the created world, even material things are under her authority. She can arrange events for the material good of souls and can obtain blessings for the faithful.
But her power in the souls and hearts of people is the most significant area of her queenly power. St. Louis Marie de Montfort’s teaching on Mary’s queenship is very clear in teaching that she is Queen of All Hearts above all else.
St. Louis Marie de Montfort says that the Kingdom of Jesus is principally in the heart of people. In the same way, he says that the kingdom of Mary is principally in man’s heart. In the interior lives of her servants, she is glorified most deeply with Jesus. Therefore, it is fitting for us to call her the Queen of All Hearts.
