Novena for Lent

Every year, the Church enters into the season of Lent for forty days before Easter. Lent is a season for increased prayer, penance, and almsgiving.
During Lent, God calls us to enter into a spirit of solemn contemplation. We consider Jesus’ forty days of fasting in the desert, and we choose penances of our own to join to the suffering of Christ.
As we unite these sufferings to Our Lord’s, we strive to prepare our hearts for the commemoration of Christ’s Passion and death. And we look forward in hope to the Resurrection on Easter.
Lent can be a difficult time for many reasons. Fasting, entering more deeply into prayer, and practicing almsgiving can be hard for us at times.
Let’s offer prayers in this Novena for Lent that God will make use of all our Lenten practices for the good of souls and for our own holiness.
Why Pray the Novena for Lent?
You can pray the Novena for Lent if you are trying to discern what penance you should take upon yourself this Lent. You can pray this novena if you often struggle with the season of Lent, or if you have a desire to grow in unity with Christ like never before this Lent.
You can also pray the Novena for Lent if someone you know is struggling to decide on a Lenten penance or often has difficulty with Lenten practices. Or you can use this novena to ask God for a holy practice of Lent this year throughout the entire Church.
