Show HideOur Lady of Manaoag is a title of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Devotion to Mary under this title began in the Philippines. The statue of Our Lady of Manaoag from which this devotion originated was made in the 1600s.

About Our Lady of Manaoag
The Our Lady of Manaoag statue is made of ivory and silver. The image depicts Mary holding the Child Jesus. She wears a regal gown and an elaborate jeweled crown.
The Our Lady of Manaoag image was taken from Spain to the Philippines in the early years of the 1600s by a priest named Juan de San Jacinto.
Documents from the early 1600s also tell of a Marian apparition associated with the Our Lady of Manaoag devotion. A farmer heard a female voice while walking home one day. When he looked for the source of the voice, he saw an apparition of Mary. He saw her holding a rosary in her right hand and the Christ Child in her left. A bright glow surrounded Mary and Jesus.
Our Lady then told the farmer that she wanted a church to be built in her honor. The chapel that was soon built on the hilltop where the apparition happened eventually became the center of the town of Manaoag.
The Our Lady of Manaoag image is currently enshrined in the minor basilica in Manaoag and has become a site of many pilgrimages. The shrine is under the care of the Dominicans of the Lingayen-Dagupan Archdiocese. A replica of the image also travels around to parishes within the Philippines to be venerated.
In 1925, Pope Pius XI granted the image a canonical coronation. This coronation took place the following year on April 21st. Pope Benedict XVI granted a plenary indulgence to those who make a pilgrimage to the Our Lady of Manaoag shrine.
Devotion to Our Lady of Manaoag has brought about many miracles. Not long after the chapel was built in response to the request of Mary in her apparition, the town was attacked in war. Many of the townspeople fled to the church. Though flaming arrows were shot at the church many times, it miraculously would not catch fire.
During World War II, bombs from Japanese forces were dropped all around the church. The church was partially damaged, but the sanctuary remained fully intact despite a bomb being dropped directly onto it.
Other miracles attributed to Our Lady of Manaoag’s intercession include the reviving of a dead boy, rainfall during a drought, and the cessation of a fire. In recent times, the miracles attributed to Our Lady of Manaoag’s intercession have become even more numerous, leading many pilgrims to travel great distances to her shrine.
