Show HideSt. Flora was a religious sister who lived in the 1300s. She was born in France. She eventually entered a religious order in Jerusalem.
St. Flora lived a very holy life despite many trials. You can use this novena to seek intercession from this holy woman in many aspects of your life.
About St. Flora
St. Flora was born around the year 1309 in France. Little is known for certain about her early years or her adolescence, except that she was very pious and devoted to her Catholic faith.
When she was a young woman, her parents attempted to arrange a marriage for her. But Flora did not wish to be married and resisted her parents’ efforts.
Before long, Flora followed God’s call to serve Him in the religious life. In 1324, Flora entered the Priory of Beaulieu of the Hospitaller nuns of St. John of Jerusalem. As a nun in this monastery, Flora devoted herself to holy work. She assisted the poor and often cared for the sick in the hospital that was attached to the monastery.
During this period of her life, Flora suffered from many trials and difficulties. Some of her fellow religious sisters often made fun of her. She also began to suffer from depression. Despite these sufferings, Flora remained faithful and united to God. She developed a deep devotion to Christ Crucified, St. John the Baptist, and Our Lady of the Annunciation.
Flora soon began to have mystical experiences. On the feast of All Saints’ Day one year, Flora fell into an ecstasy. The ecstasy lasted about three weeks until the feast day of St. Cecilia on November 22nd. During those three weeks of ecstasy, Flora took no food or other nourishment.
On one occasion, Flora began to levitate while she was meditating on the Holy Spirit. She was lifted four feet off of the ground. Many people witnessed this.
Flora also experienced a phenomenon in which the arms of Jesus’ cross seemed to be piercing her body. This caused blood to sometimes flow from her side. At times, it also caused blood to flow from her mouth.
God also gave Flora the gift of prophecy. On some occasions, God gave her knowledge that she could not have naturally known from any other source.
Even though God bestowed many great spiritual gifts upon Flora, she remained very humble. She had a strong relationship with God and a deep submission to His will. Her reputation for holiness and spiritual gifts eventually spread, and many people sought spiritual advice from her.
Flora died in 1347. After her death, many miracles occurred at her tomb through her intercession.

Pray for us, that we may always do all that we can to serve God faithfully in every circumstance. Pray that we may advance in virtue and holiness at every opportunity God gives us.

You continued in your piety and devotion as you followed God’s call to serve Him in the religious life and remained close to Him for the rest of your life.

Pray for us, that we may always make use of all the helps God gives us for holiness. Pray that we may truly strive to live saintly lives each day.

Pray for us, that we may serve God worthily in every circumstance. Pray that we may grow in our relationship with God each day of our lives.

St. Flora, the beginning of your time as a religious sister was not easy for you. As you faced the suffering of being mocked by some of the other religious sisters, you fell into depression. Despite your many sufferings, you continued to serve God faithfully.
Please take all of our petitions before the throne of God, and we particularly ask today that you pray that God may strengthen and assist all who suffer from depression.
Pray for us, that we may always persevere through any difficulties we might face. Pray that we may serve God faithfully even in the most difficult circumstances.
